6 years of cups of joy 12/05/2019

Six years ago, I parked my coffee bike outside the museum and started pouring coffee for strangers. I didn’t know then that I was also pouring the foundation for something deeper—a community built on connection, meaning, and service.

What began as a small act has grown into a daily discipline. Show up. Serve with care. Listen. Learn. Repeat. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real. And that’s what makes it lasting.

I owe so much to the museum and its staff—for the space, the support, and the belief. And to every person who stopped by, who shared a story or a moment—you’ve helped shape this community into what it is today.

Gratitude isn’t passive—it’s a practice. So today, I pause to reflect and give thanks. Not for just the years, but for the people and lessons within them: that consistency beats perfection, that kindness compounds, and that community is built one small act at a time.
Here’s to what’s ahead. More cups of joy. More conversations. More growth.

Zes jaar geleden parkeerde ik mijn fiets voor het museum en begon ik koffie te schenken aan onbekenden. Ik wist toen nog niet dat ik daarmee ook het fundament legde voor iets diepers—een gemeenschap gebouwd op verbinding, betekenis en toewijding.
Wat begon als een klein gebaar, is uitgegroeid tot een dagelijkse toewijding. Verschijnen. Met zorg schenken. Luisteren. Leren. Herhalen. Het is niet glamoureus, maar het is echt. En dat is wat het blijvend maakt.
Ik ben het museum en het personeel ontzettend dankbaar—voor de ruimte, de steun en het vertrouwen. En aan iedereen die langskwam, een verhaal of een moment deelde—jullie hebben meegeholpen om deze gemeenschap te vormen tot wat ze nu is.
Dankbaarheid is geen passief gevoel—het is een bewuste oefening. Dus vandaag sta ik even stil en breng ik mijn dank uit. Niet alleen voor de jaren, maar voor de mensen en de lessen die erin verscholen liggen: dat consistentie belangrijker is dan perfectie, dat vriendelijkheid zich opstapelt, en dat een gemeenschap groeit door kleine daden, steeds opnieuw.
Op naar wat nog komt. Meer kopjes vreugde. Meer gesprekken. Meer groei.
